Safety Platforms For A New Rail Terminal With An Aggressive Timeline
Every year, millions of people injure themselves on the job. A little more than three million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses were reported in 2013.
According to the U.S. Bureau Of Labor Statistics, over half of these illnesses and injuries were serious enough to cause time away from work, a job transfer or restriction from completing routine tasks.
One company recognized the need for increased worker safety at a new rail terminal it was building. Learn how this company implemented a safety solution that focused on fall prevention and reduced the risk of workplace injury.
The Problem: A Safety Platform System Was Needed On A Short Deadline
A rail logistics and terminal company opened a state-of-the-art crude oil rail terminal in the Southeast United States. The terminal was the first of a nationwide network of terminals designed to handle crude oil.
The company was building an addition that would give the regional crude oil market access to oil producers. Refiners would also receive a steady supply of crude oil. The new terminal added several miles of rail track and a fully automated, 26-spot rail track for offloading the oil.
A safety platform system that included gangways and fall prevention equipment was needed to enhance the safety of the new terminal, but the company had an aggressive timeline. It hoped to be “first to market” with its new terminal.
The Solution: An Easy-To-Install, High-Quality Safety System
Carbis Solutions met the company’s deadline by quickly designing, engineering and fabricating a quality, dual-sided safety platform system to meet the company’s needs. The world leader in fall prevention equipment, Carbis Solutions created custom, safe-access rail car gangways and handrails.
The system accommodated 26 offloading spots with a total capacity of 65,000 barrels per day of throughput. Designed for easy installation, the safety platform equipment allowed the company to move forward with its plans for increasing revenue quickly after an efficient setup process.
The Results: Improved Worker Safety, Growth And Profitability
In order to help the company meet increased demand in the future, Carbis Solutions designed the safety platform system so it could be easily modified for expansion.
Not only did worker safety improve, but the system reduced corporate liability, promoted growth and helped with the retention of customers in a competitive market. Ultimately, the company increased productivity and improved its bottom line.
