Tanker Truck Drivers Putting Themselves At Risk Of Injury

Dow Chemical had a problem. At its facility in Norrkoping, Sweden, tanker truck drivers were putting themselves in harm’s way. Instead of taking proper fall prevention precautions, they were climbing on top of their tanker trucks without any fall protection.

Not only did this unsafe behavior put the drivers at risk of serious injury, but it put Dow Chemical at risk of the serious financial consequences of a work-halting accident. Clearly, Dow needed a safe tanker truck access solution that drivers would voluntarily use.

A Track-Mounted Gangway System Designed By Carbis Solutions

Dow contacted Carbis Solutions and asked them to design and build a tanker truck access solution that drivers would want to use.

Working closely with Dow, Carbis Solutions designed a track-mounted gangway system that gave drivers fast, safe access to the tops of their tanker trucks. This allowed them to quickly open and inspect any number of lids on top of the trucks. As the system was designed with fall prevention in mind, it helped Dow Chemical keep workers safe from injury.

Carbis Solutions built the system in South Carolina and shipped it to Dow’s facility in Sweden. The gangway system was built precisely and sent with simple installation instructions, which made for an effortless assembly process.

Improved Worker Safety And Fall Prevention

Johan Axby, Dow Project Engineer, noted, “The Sam Carbis Solutions Group, LLC Fall Protection System works well and is actually used for access onto trucks that are not unloading at this station. Drivers go there voluntarily to open ventilation and then drive from there to their unloading spot rather than attempting to climb their own access ladders. A good reference for a safety system is if it is used even without people being pushed, as all people tend to like shortcuts.”
